Amr Zaki is a professional football player who was born on April 1, 1983 in Mansoura, Egypt.
Amr Zaki plays for Egypt at the international level. During the 2006 African Cup of Nations, he played a pivotal part in the semifinal match against Senegal, in which he scored a goal that helped his team move to the finals and later they went on to win this title for the fifth consecutive time. In the next edition of the African Cup of Nations, Amr Zaki carried on his good form by scoring goals in their games against Zambia, Angola and Ivory Coast. This strong performance helped his team clinch the African Cup of Nations title for the sixth time and set a record. He also earned a place in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2008 All Star Starting XI. As of 2008, Amr Zaki has won a total of 48 international caps for his national side and has 29 goals to his credit.
He began his professional football career by playing for the youth side of the Al-Mansoura football club based in Egypt and was later promoted to the senior side of the club. During the 2003-04 season, Amr Zaki moved to represent Engineering for the Petroleum & Process Industries (ENPPI). At ENPPI, Amr Zaki was the top league scorer for the 2004-05 season and helped his team win its first trophy, the Egyptian Soccer Cup 2005. He was also member of the squad that finished runners-up in the Egyptian Premier League. After his impressive performance with this club, he got offers from various football clubs, which include El Zamalek and Al Ahly from Egypt, Al-Ain FC from the UAE, and French team FC Nantes, but he signed a $2 million contract with the Russian football club, Lokomotiv Moscow.
In 2006, Amr Zaki moved back to Egypt to play for El Zamalek and helped his side win the Egyptian Soccer Cup 2008. During his tenure at this club, he has played 54 games and has scored 22 goals. On July 22, 2008, he signed a one-year contract with the English Premier League football club, Wigan Athletic. After having an impressive pre-season by scoring two goals in his two appearances, Amr Zaki made his league debut on August 16, 2008 and scored a goal against West Ham United. He then followed it up by scoring his first brace for the club in their 5-0 victory against Hull City on August 30, 2008.
Amr Zaki is also known by his nicknames “The Egyption Tigger”, “The Bulldozer” and “Zak”.
